Nirvana was an American alternative rock trio of immense influence, responsible for popularizing the Seattle-born grunge sound that they helped to pioneer. Formed in 1990, with Kurt Cobain on guitar, Krist Novoselic on bass and Dave Grohl on drums, the band conquered the mainstream and the consciousness of Generation X, paving the way for bands like Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden who went on to sell tens of millions of records.
