In einem Heft voll Eselsohren?
Die große Liebe gestern war's
Unter den Augen all der Stars
An den Wänden in meinem Zimmer!
Die Taschen leer und der Kopf voll
Mädchen und Songs und Rock 'n Roll
Und wir dachten, das ist für immer
50? Ja, wohl schon -
Und ein Kopf kleiner als mein Sohn!

Splittert jetzt hier und da der Lack
Bin ich jetzt auch so'n alter Sack
Zu dem ich und meine Gefährten
Jeden, der über zwanzig war
Gnadenlos stempelten und gar
Zum Zausel und scheintot erklärten?
Rieselt in meinem Hirn der Kalk
Hat aus dem Nacken sich der Schalk
Verkrümelt? Frag' ich mich beklommen

Sich leise aus dem Staub gemacht
Und ich hab's gar nicht mitbekommen?

Die reifere Generation!

Nun, auch ein großer Optimist
Weiß, daß dies nicht die Halbzeit ist
So schnell ging das! Denk' ich verwundert
Und manchmal schmunzel ich in mich rein:
Wie kann man noch so'n Kindskopf sein
Wie ich mit dem halben Jahrhundert!
Doch ob man alt ist oder nicht
Steht nicht auf Hintern und Gesicht
Und deren Falten mit den Jahren
Mancher ist schon als Kind senil
Und junge Greise kenn' ich viel
Die längst schon mit Hut Auto fahren!

Da ist so was wie Dankbarkeit
Mit einem Lächeln seh' ich weit
Im Zeitraffer über mein Leben:
