perchè per certa gente non importa grado o casta,
importa come vivi, ma forse neanche quello,
importa se sai usare bene il laccio od il coltello...
Antenòr uscì di casa, uscì di casa quella sera,
garrivano i suoi pensieri come fossero bandiera,
ma gli occhi erano fessura e il viso tirato a brutto,
come all' età in cui credi d'aver fatto quasi tutto...
Un cavallo nitrì, ma quando? Una donna rise, ma dove?
La luna uno scudo bianco, un carro le stanghe in alto,
chitarra, ozio, parole, chitarra, ozio, parole,
la pampa un ricordo stanco, un mare quell'erba nera,
può darsi fosse romantico, ma lui non lo sapeva,
ma lui non lo sapeva, ma lui non lo sapeva...
Quella donna rideva ad ore, quella luna solo uno sputo
e per quel cavallo non avrebbe speso anche un minuto,
è difficile far rumore sulle cose che ci hai ogni giorno,
le tue braghe, il tuo sudore e l'odore che porti attorno...
La cantina era quasi vuota, scarsa d' uomini e d' allegria:
se straniero l' avresti detta quasi piena di nostalgia.
Nostalgia ma di che cosa, d' un oceano mai guardato,
di un' Europa mai sentita, d' un linguaggio mai parlato?
Antenòr chiese da bere e scambiò qualche saluto,
calmo e serio danzò tutto il rituale ormai saputo
uomo e uguale coi suoi pari quasi pari con gli anziani,
come breve quella sera, come lunghi i suoi domani.
Proprio allora qualcuno entrando nella luce da dentro al buio
lo insultò appena sussurrando, ma sembrava che stesse urlando
come per uno schiaffo, come per uno sputo...
Antenòr lo guardò sorpreso, lo studiò e non lo conosceva
e il motivo restò sospeso fra la gente ferma in attesa
e lui non lo sapeva, e lui non lo sapeva.
Poi sentì di una donna il nome, già scordato o non conosciuto
quante volte per altri è vita quello che per noi è un minuto;
guardò gli uomini per cercare occhi, dialogo, spiegazione,
ma se non trovò condanne, non trovò un'assoluzione...
Antenòr uscì di fuori bilanciando il suo coltello
per danzare malvolentieri passi e ritmi del duello:
una donna non ricordata ed un uomo mai visto prima
lo legavano tra loro come versi con la rima.
Fintò basso e scartò di lato, quanti sguardi sentì sul viso
si sentì migliore e stanco, si sentì come un sorriso
che serata tutta al contrario, proprio niente da ricordare,
puntò il ferro contro il viso, vide il sangue zampillare.
Tutto quanto era stato un lampo, Antenòr respirava forte
fece il gesto di offrir la mano, guardò l'altro e capì pian piano
che tutto era stato invano, che l'altro cercava morte
e capì che doveva farlo, farlo in fretta perchè non c' era
un motivo per ammazzarlo, l' altro cadde e non rispondeva
e lui non lo sapeva, e lui non lo sapeva.
Antenòr lo guardò cadere, sentì dire "la colpa è mia",
sentì dire "è stato un uomo", sentì dire "fuggi via!"
La giustizia disse "bandito", ma un poeta gli avrebbe detto
che era come l' Ebreo errante, come il Batavo maledetto...
Quante volte ci è capitato di trovarci di fronte a un muro,
quante volte abbiam picchiato, quante volte subito duro,
quante cose nate per sbaglio, quanti sbagli nati per caso,
quante volte l' orizzonte non va oltre il nostro naso,
Quante volte ci sembra piana, mentre sotto gioca d'azzardo,
questa vita che ci birilla come bocce da biliardo,
questa cosa che non sappiamo, questo conto senza gli osti,
questo gioco da giocare fino in fondo a tutti i costi...
