Und hinterm Ginsterbusch am Tümpel, ganz von Tau durchnässt
Seine kleine, rote Mütze, und jetzt steht es fest:
Der kleine Wiesel, der kleine Wiesel ist verschwunden.
Heute morgen haben sie ihn alle noch geseh'n,
Im Wald hier kann ihm ja auch wirklich nichts gescheh'n,
Wo jeder jedem hilft, alle einander kennen.
Die Mutter war doch eben nur ganz kurz ums Eck
Und gleich zurück, da war der kleinr Wiesel weg,
Und jeder weiss, der kleine Wiesel, der kann rennen
Aber jetzt ist schon längst Mittag, jetzt ist Essenszeit
Und der kleine Wiesel nicht zu sehen weit und breit,
Die Eltern und Geschwister rufen ihn jetzt schon seit Stunden.
Wo steckt er nur, was hat er wieder angestellt?
Wenn ein Kind nicht heimkommt, kentert die ganze Welt
Der kleine Wiesel ist verschwunden.
Das vorwitzigste Kerlchen im ganzen Revier,
So ein übermüt'ges, abenteuerlust'ges Tier
Mit seiner spitzen Nase und den Hamsterbacken
Wie oft haben die Eltern es "Sag nein!" ermahnt,
"Geh nicht mit Fremden mit!", als hätten sie's geahnt.
Er ist so zutraulich und hat doch nur den Schalk im Nacken
Die Eltern bitten, und die Eltern fleh'n:
"Bitte lasst den kleinen Wiesel nach Hause geh'n!"
Noch immer hat man keine neue Spur gefunden.
Die Mutter wie erloschen, wie von Tränen blind,
Der Vater wie von Sinnen vor Angst um das Kind.
Der kleine Wiesel, der kleine Wiesel ist verschwunden.
Der Fuchs sagt: "Jeder weiss, dass all das Mahnen wenig nützt,
dass Vorsicht ganz allein uns're Kinder nicht schützt.
Wie soll'n sie sich denn von der Gefahr fernhalten?
Kinder erkennen manche Gefahren ganz einfach nicht.
Ja, ist es denn dann nicht unsere verdammte Pflicht,
Die Gefahr für uns're Kinder auszuschalten?"
Der Prediger sagt:"
Wer ein einz'ges der Kleinen fängt,
Für den wäre es besser, er würde versenkt
Mit einem Eselsmühlstein auf dem Meeresgrunde!"
Der Richter sagt:
"In welchem Erdloch er sich auch verbirgt,
Sein Recht auf Freiheit ist für alle Zeit verwirkt!"
Das Unfassbare ist in diesem Wald gescheh'n,
Nicht's ist, wie's war. Wie soll das Leben weitergeh'n?
Nur einer fehlt, doch dieser eine fehlt uns allen.
Und keins der Tiere ruht, und keins der Tiere frisst
So lange, wie der kleine Wiesel nicht zu Hause ist.
Die Gemeinschaft, die die Brut nicht schützt, die muss zerfallen
