Den t och den drack, och den sov hela natten

I gryningen vakna jag till av att fgeln
hade tagit sej upp p mitt brst.
Dr satt den och sjng dom mest ljuvliga toner,
med sin rena och glasklara rst.
Och tonerna fyllde mitt dsliga hus,
till dom mest avlgsna vinklar och vrr.
Sngen gjorde mej glad, och mitt sinne blev ljust,
fr jag visste att nu var vi tv.
Jag kpte min fgel en gyllene bur,
och stllde den mitt p mitt bord.
Den var med nr jag skrev, den var med nr jag t,
och den var ocks med nr jag sov.
Jag prata med fgeln, jag spela fr fgeln,
och den blev som en kr gammal vn.
Och i mina stunder av sorg och frtvivlan
s sjng den mej lycklig igen.
Med fgeln i huset var min ensamhet ver,
och snart knde jag livslust igen.
S jag bjd hem till fest, och jag bjd hem till dans,
och vnnerna fyllde mitt hem.
Vi satt hela ntter och pratade minnen,
ibland nda tills det blev ljust..
Och fgeln satt med oss, hur sent det n blev,
tills den somnade in i sin bur.
Och mnader kom, och mnader gick,
och snart hade sommarn blitt hst.
Och fgeln blev tystare fr varje dag,
tills den slutligen miste sin rst.
Den satt i sin bur och sg ut genom fnstret,
mot en himmel s blytung och gr.
Och frst i oktober frstod jag till sist
vad den satt dr och kikade p.
Mot skyarna sg man dom flyga p led,
p vg mot sitt riktiga hem.
Dom reste p instinkt, dom fljde dom lagar
naturen s klokt har bestmt.
Jag sg p min fgel, som satt dr p bordet,
s fjttrad och sorgsen och tyst,
s jag ppnade fnstret, och jag ppnade buren,
och jag sg hur min fgel flg ut.
Det gr emot vr, snart ska trden sl ut,
nu r mrkret och kylan frbi.
Jag gr runt i min trgrd och sneglar mot himlen,
fr jag vet att snart kommer dom hit.
Och jag tror just en av dom kommer att gra
en extra svng ver mitt hem.
