The Beatnuts are an American hip hop duo from New York, consisting of rappers JuJu (Dominican-American) and Psycho Les (Colombian-American). Active since the late 1980s, they have helped define the sound of New York boom bap with lyrics characterized by a strong narrative component and an aggressive flow. Considered one of the most influential groups in the underground hip hop scene, The Beatnuts are known for their technical skills and the use of jazz and funk samples. They are members of the Native Tongues collective, although they have always maintained a peripheral role compared to other artists like A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul. Among their most representative tracks are "Watch Out Now", "Off the Top" and "The Beatnuts Are Back".
