Sting, whose real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, is a British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1951. He rose to international fame as the bassist, vocalist, and primary songwriter for The Police, a band active from 1977 to 1984. After the group disbanded, Sting embarked on a successful solo career, releasing albums that spanned genres such as pop, rock, jazz, and world music. Among his most famous songs are "Every Breath You Take", "Roxanne", "Shape of My Heart" and "Fields of Gold".
