Il percorso musicale dell'artista Riccardo Ruiu inizia con l'esecuzione di cover italiane e straniere per poi evolvere lungo un percorso compositivo, che lo porta a comporre in proprio i suoi brani, ispirandosi alla canzone cantautorale nostrana. Notevolmente influenzato dalle tematiche a sfondo sociale e di stampo romantico, le sue composizioni riflettono spesso questa ispirazione. Nel 2009 collabora con la poetessa Jacqueline C. Miù (Uccelli blu, Joker man). Nel 2010 pubblica il suo primo album "È l'amore", che contiene brani interamente scritti e musicati da lui, in italiano, inglese e spagnolo. Oltre al brano "È l'amore” che dà il titolo all'album e viene trasmesso in radiodiffusione, è da segnalare il brano "I can't sleep", la prima versione in inglese di "No potho reposare", un classico della musica tradizionale sarda. Negli anni a seguire partecipa a diversi festival (da segnalare tra gli altri il "Tour Music Festival” presieduto da Mogol) dove viene apprezzata dalla critica la particolare sensibilità espressa nei testi. Nel 2010 si trasferisce a Berlino dove negli anni a seguire si esibisce in diversi locali come solista. Nel 2015 partecipa al Great American Song Contest, concorso internazionale per singer-songwriter. Nel 2017 partecipa al John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Nel 2019 partecipa al concorso per autori American Songwriter. Nel 2020 partecipa al concorso "Targa Tenco" e al "Premio Andrea Parodi" con il brano in sardo "Su munnu est gai". Nel 2020 pubblica il singolo “Che ridere Presidente” Nel 2021 pubblica il singolo in lingua sarda “Bella as a torrare”, attraverso il quale lancia un progetto solidale a supporto della città di Bitti, colpita da un’alluvione. Nel 2021 riceve un'importante menzione di merito al “Premio Internazionale CET Scuola Autori di Mogol” per il testo della canzone “Senza te” contenuta nel suo album d'esordio “È l'amore”. Ultimamente affianca la carriera cantautorale a quella autorale proponendo i suoi lavori ad artisti già affermati del panorama musicale italiano.
