C'era una volta un soldato
un piccolo soldato del nostro paese
mandato alla guerra sul fronte albanese
con tanta paura addosso.
La fidanzata quel giorno,
che lui saliva sulla tradotta a vapore,
gli annodò al collo, in pegno d'amore,
un gran fazzoletto rosso.
Per darsi un po' di speranza
fu cura di quel piccolo bravo soldato
tener sempre quel fazzoletto annodato
sull'uniforme d'ordinanza
Era più prezioso quel fazzoletto,
delle scarpe rotte o del moschetto
e valeva tutto intero il romano impero!
Ma quel colore violento
che non era per niente regolamentare
lo fece in principio un po' tribolare
per via del regolamento.
Poi quando col 91
aveva da mirare e schiacciare il grilletto
lui stava a guardare il suo fazzoletto
e non colpì mai nessuno.
Il fazzoletto servì di nascosto
a metter dentro i lamponi e le more
ma non si sporcò perchè i frutti del
bosco
avevano un egual colore.
E se qualche volta fasciò un ferito
il suo fazzoletto restò pulito
perchè il sangue, è naturale,
ha un colore eguale!
Il fazzoletto sbiadì
per il sole ed il sudore di tanta fatica
e si colorò di mirtilli, di more,
del sangue di gente amica.
Ma venne un giorno diverso
un giorno ben diverso dai giorni passati
in cui quel soldato con gli altri soldati
capì cosa aveva perso.
Avevo perso per niente degli anni
di lavoro, degli anni felici
per fare la guerra alla povera gente
per far la guerra degli amici.
A dei contadini, dei muratori
a degli operai, a dei pastori
senza avere proprio niente
contro quella gente!
Ed il soldato partì
tutto solo e senza fretta
portandosi addosso
la vecchia divisa, la vecchia gavetta
ed il fazzoletto rosso.
Ed un mattino di sole
dai monti e giù dai prati,
a rotta di collo,
gli vennero incontro degli uomini armati
con un fazzoletto al collo.
E il fazzoletto era rosso
era rosso come quello del bravo soldato
ma in più c'era sopra
una falce e un martello
chissà in che modo ricamato!
Ogni contadino e muratore
ogni operaio e ogni pastore
di
quel fazzoletto si era fatta una
bandiera!
Era una bandiera fatta di stracci
come si conviene ai poveracci
che han deciso, per protesta,
con la propria testa
Che han deciso che in fondo
su tutti i paralleli ed i meridiani
la povera gente di tutto 'sto mondo
è fatta di paesani...
di paesani...
di paesani...
