Nato a Parigi, Bachelet ha iniziato la sua carriera musicale negli anni '60 come musicista di sessione, collaborando con artisti come Claude François e Johnny Hallyday. Nel 1975 ha pubblicato il suo primo album da solista, "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle", che lo ha lanciato al successo. Bachelet è noto per la sua voce calda e melodica, le sue canzoni romantiche e malinconiche, spesso accompagnate da arrangiamenti orchestrali raffinati.
