Biografia

Vittorio De Scalzi (Genova, 4 novembre 1949) cantante, polistrumentista e compositore fonda I Trolls insieme a Pino Scarpettini, incidendo il 45 giri "Dietro la nebbia". Nello stesso anno debutta come solista, con "Vietato ai maggiori di pochi anni", in cui esegue Norwegian Wood dei The Beatles e Take a Heart, utilizzando lo pseudonimo Napoleone. Nel 1967, terminata l'esperienza de I Trolls, costituisce i New Trolls, gettando le basi per una proficua carriera, caratterizzata sin dall'inizio dall'intento di concentrarsi su un repertorio originale, con Nico Di Palo (chitarre), Gianni Belleno (batteria), Giorgio D'Adamo (basso) e Mauro Chiarugi (tastiere). Nello stesso anno la band apre i concerti della tournée italiana dei The Rolling Stones e suona in jam session con musicisti come Stevie Wonder. Contemporaneamente si impegna nel lavoro di ricerca sulla musica tradizionale genovese, scrivendo in quegli anni canzoni dialettali parte del patrimonio culturale della sua città. Con la collaborazione di Fabrizio De André e del poeta Riccardo Mannerini, compone i brani del primo album dei New Trolls, il concept album "Senza orario senza bandiera", di cui Mannerini è autore dei testi e il musicista arrangiatore e produttore. Vittorio De Scalzi è autore di molte canzoni di successo della band (da "Visioni", "Una miniera", a "Quella carezza della sera"). Ha composto anche canzoni per Mina e per Ornella Vanoni. Tra i brani scritti per altri interpreti, quelli contenuti nell'album "Tutti i brividi del mondo" di Anna Oxa. In qualità di tastierista e cantante dei New Trolls, De Scalzi ha partecipato a sette edizioni del Festival di Sanremo. Nell'edizione del 1996 la band partecipa in coppia con Umberto Bindi interpretando la canzone "Letti", di cui quest'ultimo è autore con Renato Zero. Un altro filone importante è rappresentato dal "Suonatore Jones", un tour perlopiù incentrato sulle sue collaborazioni con l'amico Fabrizio De André. La relativa scaletta contiene la riproposta dell'album "Senza orario senza bandiera", più altri brani dei New Trolls e alcuni brani originali di De André, che nella sua prima tournée (1975-1976) era stato supportato da una band composta da alcuni componenti dei New Trolls (Ricky Belloni, Gianni Belleno, Giorgio D'Adamo e Giorgio Usai). Nel 1973 De Scalzi ha partecipato al disco collettivo "L'Arca": le due canzoni da lui cantate sono state pubblicate poi nel singolo "Le api" a nome Vittorio dei New Trolls & The Plagues (nel lato B "La foca" canta anche Franco Gatti dei Ricchi e Poveri). Nel 2001, in qualità di solista, supportato dall'Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino diretta da Maurizio Salvi ha realizzato un primo album dal vivo dal titolo Concerto grosso; il disco, costituito da brani di repertorio dei New Trolls. Nel 2008 ha inciso un disco realizzato interamente in dialetto genovese, "Mandilli". Nel 2011 ha pubblicato l'album "Gli occhi del mondo", realizzato mettendo in musica, con la collaborazione di Marco Ongaro, alcune poesie di Riccardo Mannerini. L'anno seguente fa parte del supergruppo Artisti Uniti per Genova per il progetto benefico "Ora che", brano scritto da Max Campioni, arrangiato da Lauro Ferrarini, prodotto da Verdiano Vera e realizzato per raccogliere fondi per l'alluvione di Genova del 4 novembre 2011, che vede la partecipazione di numerosi musicisti e cantanti della scena musicale genovese. De Scalzi è inoltre membro fondatore e componente del gruppo Slow Feet Band con cui ha pubblicato l'album "Elephant Memory". A settembre 2021 pubblica il progetto intitolato "Una volta suonavo nei New Trolls", cofanetto con 1 libro di racconti di vita raccolti e scritti da Massimo Cotto, 1 cd con i più grandi successi della storica Band, registrato live con il nuovo gruppo "La Storia dei New Trolls", 1 cd inciso con "L'Orchestra ICO Della Magna Grecia" con la quale ha rieseguito i 2 "Concerto Grosso" e un DVD dell'esibizione live de "Il Suonatore Jones", nel progetto sono contenuti 3 inediti. A fine ottobre riceve il Premio Tenco Artista 2021.
