The band's name is a reference to the "Wilhelm scream", a famous stock sound effect used in many films. Before adopting their current name, the band was known as Smackin' Isaiah, Koen and Adam's Crack, but only the former was used in a major release. The change of name from Koen to Smackin' Isaiah to A Wilhelm Scream was due to the addition of new members and the band's maturation.
