Elisa Ridolfi ha alle spalle una lunga attività di promozione del fado, iniziata quando, poco più che ventenne, Marco Poeta la volle come voce femminile in un ensemble votato a diffondere in Italia quel repertorio. La compagnia era eccellente: le voci maschili, per dire, erano Eugenio Finardi e Francesco Di Giacomo. Seguirono anni ricchi di esperienze e di incontri che non suscitarono timori eccessivi in quella giovanissima cantante che, con grande disinvoltura, dispensava la magia della sua voce assieme a interpreti come Jorge Fernando, Argentina Santos, Riccardi Ribeiro, Ana Sofia Varela, Ana Muora, o anche altri grandi artisti italiani, tra i quali Andrea Parodi, Peppe Servillo e Lucio Dalla, con il quale duetta prima al Sao Luis di Lisbona e poi allo Strehler di Milano. Circostanze e casi della vita la spingono poi a riposizionarsi nel mondo della musica dove mantiene comunque collaborazioni di grande prestigio, come quella con il collettivo internazionale Del Barrio e, soprattutto, con la Compagnia di Musicultura, con la quale realizza ben sette delle dodici produzioni originali promosse da Piero Cesanelli con centinaia di repliche in giro per l'Italia: e come lavoro pressoché quotidiano, meno appariscente ma non per questo meno appassionante, la dedizione al canto come mezzo di formazione per donne e bambini. A ben vedere, è questo un lungo periodo di gestazione in cui, con passo insolitamente lento, senza alcuna smania, Elisa muove verso questo nuovo disco, Curami l'anima, che, pubblicato da Squilibri, ad oltre vent'anni dalla sua entrata in scena sotto le bandiere del fado, segna anche il suo esordio come cantautrice: un esordio di "scintillante bellezza, fosforo e fantasia" nel quale un carico pesante di vita e poesia si scioglie magnificamente in una voce di grande fascino e personalità, giunta al culmine delle proprie capacità come timbrica, estensione e varietà di modulazioni. Qualcosa di lieve e pesante allo stesso tempo, etereo e terrestre si leva da questi brani, in un flusso di coscienza che ogni volta muta tragitto per ritornare immancabilmente su se stesso, senza mai assumere le cadenze tristi di un ripiegamento: qualcosa che si definisce soltanto nel linguaggio evocativo della musica ma che il duplice rimando a Virginia Woolf (Q e Il tempo passa) può aiutare a nominare. Curami l'anima, pertanto, non è un titolo a caso né, tanto meno, a sproposito: c'è davvero qualcosa che risuona come benefico, lenitivo di pene e tormenti, una sorta di unguento sonoro che la protagonista deve aver sperimentato su di sé prima di farne dono agli altri, provando sulla sua stessa pelle come la musica possa consolare l'animo degli uomini disperdendo il brusìo delle loro vane parole. Non a caso, in uno dei testi introduttivi, Jorge Fernando, tra i musicisti più autorevoli del fado portoghese, scrive che la voce di Elisa "è come acqua che scorre e bagna i cuori, anche quelli di pietra". Un effetto che, per Ezio Nannipieri, si ottiene solo quando si canta "non quello che si sa ma quello che si è", immettendo in ogni brano vita e coraggio, sangue e respiro, lacrime e risate: scintillanti frammenti di esistenza personali che, levigati e modellati dall'arte, diventano espressione di moti e stati d'animo universali.
