Ilema, nome d'arte di Ilenia Mancini, nasce a Firenze. Cresce nel quartiere dell'Isolotto, in un contesto segnato da una forte dimensione collettiva e sociale, che influisce precocemente sul suo modo di osservare il mondo. Dopo gli studi all'ISEF di Firenze, prende parte a progetti educativi e di ricerca legati all'attività motoria e all'inclusione, collaborando anche con il Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano. A vent'anni si trasferisce a Londra, avviando un percorso di formazione e lavoro che negli anni successivi la porterà a vivere tra Europa e Medio Oriente. Tra Svizzera, Doha e Dubai approfondisce lo studio delle pratiche corporee e lavora come insegnante di yoga, maturando un interesse sempre più preciso per il rapporto tra corpo, voce e movimento. Durante il periodo trascorso in Qatar frequenta un centro culturale femminile, dove studia la lingua araba e si avvicina alle tradizioni musicali e coreutiche dell'area del Golfo. Rientrata in Italia, prosegue la sua formazione iscrivendosi alla scuola di agopuntura di Firenze. Da questa esperienza nasce il saggio "Come trattare la voce con la medicina cinese", adottato in ambito medico e sanitario, che segna un passaggio importante nella sua ricerca sul funzionamento della voce come strumento espressivo e fisiologico. Dopo alcuni anni di lavoro come terapeuta, si trasferisce in Brasile, stabilendosi a Rio de Janeiro. Qui fonda Tao Batuque, un progetto educativo sviluppato nella favela della Mangueira che unisce yoga, percussioni e attività con i bambini del quartiere, attirando l'attenzione dei media locali e internazionali. Parallelamente entra in contatto diretto con la scena culturale carioca e riprende a scrivere musica. Nel 2016 pubblica in Brasile l'album "Cigana di Luna" con lo pseudonimo Luna Rosa, ricevendo riscontri dalla stampa locale. Il progetto musicale prosegue negli anni successivi fino alla nascita di Ilema, identità con cui debutta ufficialmente in Italia con il singolo "Briciole di te", scritto a Rio de Janeiro e finalizzato a Firenze nel 2024 sotto la direzione artistica di Marco Falagiani. Il suo lavoro si muove lungo una linea essenziale, dove la scrittura musicale dialoga con un percorso di ricerca sul corpo e sulla voce, senza sovrapporre biografia e racconto, ma lasciando che l'esperienza entri nella forma.
