Savatage è un gruppo musicale heavy metal statunitense formatosi a Tampa, Florida, nei primi anni '80. Il nucleo fondante era composto dai fratelli Jon Oliva (voce e tastiere) e Criss Oliva (chitarra), insieme al batterista Steve "Doc" Wacholz. La band guadagnò rapidamente una solida base di fan in Florida e nel 1983 pubblicò il suo album di debutto, *Sirens*. L'anno successivo, Savatage firmò con la Atlantic Records e nel 1985 uscì il loro album d'esordio per l'etichetta, *Power of the Night*, che segnò un punto di svolta nella loro carriera.
